Quantum Impedance Networks of Wavefunction Interactions: A Lost Organizing Principle in the History of Physics

This essay traces the history of impedance matching as an overlooked core organizing principle in quantum physics. Impedance matching governs amplitude and phase of the flow of energy, of information transmission, in both classical and quantum mechanics. Although quantum mechanics retained the associated phenomena of amplitude, phase, reflection, transmission, resonance, tunneling, and scattering, it did not assimilate the organizing principle of impedance matching. Convergence with particle physics phenomenology and geometric algebra illustrates how ideas arising in separate traditions can unexpectedly meet. The essay reveals how a physical organizing principle can remain present in the phenomena while becoming largely invisible in the language used to describe them.
